In response to the growing need for STEM-driven education, Geovibe CJSC (Geovibe) introduced GIS4Schools – a geospatial program designed for both students and teachers to leverage GIS as a learning tool in the classroom. By integrating this program into a school’s curriculum, students gain a more comprehensive understanding of complex issues, develop problem-solving skills, and learn to effectively communicate and take action based on their findings.

The Challenge

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education is a multidisciplinary approach to improving education, the workforce, and national competitiveness. GIS allows STEM students to do exactly what STEM professionals do in thousands of career fields daily. The primary objective of this project was to enforce Spatial Thinking skills in the students and equip them with analytical tools to address 21st-century issues, such as renewable energy and agriculture. Geovibe partnered with Quantum College to train the students and teachers and provide them with advanced technology tools to ask geographic and scientific questions, gather data, analyze, evaluate, and communicate the results.

The Solution

Geovibe conducted multiple training sessions with teachers and students of Quantum College, enabling them to apply their skills and knowledge to identify suitable locations for viticulture in the Aragatsotn region. Students first researched the optimum natural conditions for the vineyards such as the elevation, aspect, and soil types. Then the y gathered data relevant to these conditions and finally conducted a suitability analysis to identify which areas are most suitable for viticulture.

Through the collaboration between Geovibe and Quantum College, students gained valuable practical experience and knowledge required in any scientific research lifecycle. This partnership fosters the growth and advancement of the geospatial industry, promoting the use of advanced technology tools and techniques, and empowering the next generation of geospatial professionals.

The Result

The collaboration between Geovibe and Quantum College exemplifies the positive impact that can arise from partnerships between industry leaders and educational institutions. This partnership highlights the commitment of Geovibe and Quantum College toward promoting the development of the next generation of STEM professionals and contributing to the growth of the geospatial industry as a whole. The success of the GIS4School project has prompted Quantum College to acknowledge the potential and benefits of collaboration and continue its partnership with Geovibe.
